Transfer Microchip Ownership Online Today!

Don't Have An Online Account?

1. Go to www.car.com.au.

2. Click on 'Create Account'.

3. Select 'Pet Owner' access and click 'Next'.

4. The next page will have your name filled in as the name you entered when creating the login.

5. Enter the microchip number and your mobile number.

6. Once submitted, the system will check, based on your name and mobile number, whether you are the listed owner. As you are already the listed owner on the C.A.R database, it will prompt you to enter the one-time password sent to the mobile number we have on file.

7. Your profile is now authenticated. Click 'My Animals'.

8. Click 'Transfer Pet' next to the pet, or use 'Transfer Pet' in the left-hand menu.

9. Enter the new owner's details and click 'Proceed to Summary'.

10. Click 'Submit & Proceed to Payment' when you're satisfied that all details are correct.

11. Fill out the payment details and click 'Pay Now', or select 'New Owner to Pay for Transfer'.

12. Once payment is complete, an approval request will be sent to the new owner.

13. A certificate will be emailed to you once the transfer has been approved.

Already Have An Online Account?

1. Sign in with your email and password if you haven't already.

2. Click 'My Animals'.

3. Click 'Transfer Pet' next to the pet, or use 'Transfer Pet' in the left-hand menu.

4. Enter the new owner's details and click 'Proceed to Summary'.

5. Click 'Submit & Proceed to Payment' when you're satisfied that all details are correct.

6. Fill out the payment details and click 'Pay Now', or select 'New Owner to Pay for Transfer'.

7. Once payment is complete, an approval request will be sent to the new owner.

8. A certificate will be emailed to you once the transfer has been approved.

Note: In Victoria, the transfer completes once the new owner confirms it, or automatically after 5 days. In all other states, you will remain listed as the owner until the new owner accepts the transfer.

Once completed this form requires to be printed and signed by the new owner and yourself before being sent back to Central Animal Records for processing. If you do not sign this form, the transfer could take up to 23 days as we are legally required to contact you for consent to transfer ownership. If submitting a paper form, a payment of $21.99 including GST must accompany all documents requesting an ownership change. Changes will not be processed until payment is received and cleared along with the appropriate documentation.
